Here’s a list of the the items, in my opinion that would comprise of an excellent work-wear capsule. When choosing items for a 9 to 5 work day, try to maximize their potential to be worn after work and the weekends too.
Dresses: The little black dress (LBD) is a must. This could take you from office to after dinner drinks by just adding a scarf and a leopard clutch. I’ve added a monochrome dress for the second (That’s my love for monochrome talking) as I think it works well in an office setting, but don’t be afraid to add a pop of color or you would look washed out.
Jackets: A blazer in black, navy or gray is a must. Don’t forget a cardigan during winter months or if the AC gets too cold for you.
Trousers: A pair of slim fit or wide leg trousers in any neutral color and fabric. Trousers are best with a wool blend. And of course, dark denim for Friday’s.
Skirts: A pencil skirt is a must. A midi skirt is a good option too, though I’m not a big fan.
Tops: A classic white button down is a must. It can go with just about anything. You could also layer it under your LBD during colder months. A few more in olive, burgundy and black (to transition from day to night).
Shoes: Classic pumps in Black or nude and a pair of ballet flats if you do a lot of walking during office hours or to and fro to work/home.
Accessories: A black, tan, white or nude colored handbag. A clutch for after office parties. Scarves add color and pull an all-neutral colored outfit together. The more, the merrier. A pair of diamond or pearl studs, a strand of pearls or a simple gold chain and a pendant. And of course, a statement watch!
